CosmoDoggyHealth: How To Measure Your Dog’s Respiratory Rate

The respiratory rate refers to the number of breaths a dog takes per minute when calm, not panting, and at rest. This can vary according to the dog and the breed. The average dog’s respiratory rate is 24 breaths per minute going from 10 to 30 breaths per minute, with bigger dogs being at the lower limit of the interval and puppies in the first weeks of life at the upper bound or even going beyond it and reaching 35 breath per minute.

Changes in the respiratory rate are a sign of distress, and excessive panting requires veterinary attention.
